In the online roleplay game GTA: Criminal Russia policemen patrol the streets and seize civilians, generals hold recruiting campaigns, soldiers learn their goose steps and rehearse enlistment oaths, prisoners are tortured in their cells, and Putin scurries along gilt palatial corridors and portraits of long-gone autocrats. Victory Day of May 9 is celebrated with military parades, patriotic concerts, and floral tributes at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. On 24 February, 2022 a real war burst into this virtual world.
